Looking for a new bed can feel a little like searching for a holiday. At first, you are full of excitement but a few Google pages later you are hit with information fatigue. Upholstered? Wooden? Leather? Metal? The choice is endless. On average, we replace our bedframes every 10-15 years, so it is important to invest wisely. Let’s break it down and look at the two most popular types of frame: upholstered and wooden. Both are beautiful long-lasting frames, with many positives and only the occasional drawback.

Upholstered beds

They are ultra-cosy

Snuggling into bed at the end of a long day is one of life’s simple pleasures. Upholstered beds are perfect for sinking into at night-time with their soft furnishings. Many also have super comfy, tall headboards, excellent for supporting your head and back on lazy Sunday mornings, reading or watching television.

An array of colours

With an upholstered bed, if you want to add a particular colour to your bedroom, then it is easy to find the perfect match. At Love Home Living we believe it is important to offer a wide variety of colours to help you achieve your optimal look. With many of our beds coming in a selection of up to 29 colours, you can effortlessly find the right bed without sacrificing colour schemes. This Kensington design has a gorgeous choice of colours, from Blush to Velvet Jade. Whatever shade you are looking for, we can be sure to match it.

Custom design to how you want it

If you are looking for a unique style, then this is where upholstered beds truly deserve the spotlight. Whether you are looking for a French design bed or even a frame with storage, upholstered beds come in all different shapes and fabrics with a variety of finishing touches.

The Drawback

They take a little more effort to clean

In comparison to wooden beds, upholstered beds are not as simple to clean. They will need to be hoovered regularly to remove dust and a stain can be particularly tricky to remove. Something to consider if you have a pet that likes to sneak in for night-time cuddles, or you are particularly accident-prone!

Wooden beds

They are classically versatile

From sweeping historical statement beds to minimal modern designs, a wooden bed can be either a classic statement piece or an elegant blank canvas for your bedroom desires. Classic sleigh beds to fresh, contemporary designs, there is a style for all.

Easy to clean

A wooden bed frame is far easier to keep clean. Simply wipe down with a damp cloth or use some furniture polish to keep your frame looking as good as new.

They are better for the environment

In comparison to upholstery, most wood is far kinder to the environment as wood is a sustainable resource. Moreover, if you are buying good quality hardwood such as oak, your bed frame will be naturally robust, therefore lasting longer.

The Drawback

Wooden beds tend to be heavier than other frames. Therefore, if you are planning to move house often, this may not be the right choice for you. Upholstered beds are often lighter and easier to assemble; the ideal choice if you need to move your furniture around.

Still finding it hard to choose?

Then how about a combination of the two? Have the best of both worlds and try a design that collaborates cosy fabric with a classic wooden style. We love this chic weathered French bed.
